The University of Vermont men’s basketball team learned its NIT fate this evening. The Catamounts will travel to face Cleveland State on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.com.

Cleveland State finished third in the Horizon League with a 26-8 overall mark, falling to Butler in the Horizon League Tournament. The Vikings are led by senior guard Norris Cole, one of the best mid-major players in the nation, averaging 21.6 points per game. The game pits two recent mid-major upset darlings as the Catamounts ousted Syracuse in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, while Cleveland State took down Wake Forest during the 2008 NCAAs.

Vermont is 0-2 all-time against Cleveland State, last playing during the 2001-02 season, falling 72-69, when the team was coached by Vermont alum Rollie Massimino, better known for guiding Villanova to the 1985 NCAA title.

It marks Vermont’s second appearance in the NIT, with the last coming in 2007, when the Catamounts lost a 57-55 nail-biter to Kansas State.
